Breastfeeding nutrition, built around you.

Feeding a baby is a real demand on your body. The plan counts it.

Breastfeeding is a genuine, ongoing energy and nutrient demand, not a footnote to pregnancy that fades once the baby arrives. How you are feeding, exclusive, mixed, pumping or weaning, changes what your body actually needs, and a plan that does not ask which one applies is working from a guess.

Plait asks how you are feeding and plans energy around it, then keeps adjusting as that changes, including through the specific shift that happens when your cycle returns.

What Plait tracks.

  • How you feed (exclusive, mixed, pumping or weaning), with energy planned around it rather than a flat postpartum number
  • Energy, protein and iron, tracked through the stage rather than assumed constant

Questions that change real numbers.

App behaviour, not a quiz for its own sake: each answer below moves an actual target in your plan.

What the guidance is built on.

Plait's breastfeeding targets draw on the same evidence base as pregnancy: ACOG's nutrition guidance, current FDA and EPA fish advice for the breastfeeding period, and the Institute of Medicine's dietary reference intakes, which set separate figures for lactation rather than reusing the pregnancy numbers.

  • U.S. FDA and EPA. Advice About Eating Fish (pregnancy and breastfeeding).
  • Institute of Medicine. Dietary Reference Intakes: Energy, Carbohydrate, Fiber, Fat and Protein (including pregnancy and lactation), 2005.
