Menopause nutrition, built around you.

Menopause, postmenopause and surgical menopause are different starting points, so the plan asks which one is yours.

Menopause is a single point in time, twelve months after your last period, but the word gets used loosely to cover everything from the years leading up to it through to decades afterward. Postmenopause and surgical menopause each start from a different place, hormonally and nutritionally, and a plan that does not ask which one applies to you is guessing.

Plait asks. The targets that follow, protein, bone-minded and heart-minded choices, are the same underlying priorities as perimenopause, but the plan adjusts for how far past the transition you are rather than treating every postmenopausal year the same.

What Plait tracks.

  • Protein-forward, with bone and heart-minded meals built into the plan
  • Steady meals rather than crash diets, since your baseline energy needs have genuinely shifted
  • Energy, mood, sleep and weight, tracked over time rather than judged day to day

Questions that change real numbers.

App behaviour, not a quiz for its own sake: each answer below moves an actual target in your plan.

What the guidance is built on.

The same evidence base as perimenopause: Plait's menopause targets are checked against The Menopause Society's published position statements on hormone and nonhormone therapy, which cover the nutrition and lifestyle context alongside treatment options.

  • The Menopause Society. 2022 Hormone Therapy Position Statement. Menopause, 2022.
  • The Menopause Society. 2023 Nonhormone Therapy Position Statement. Menopause, 2023.

Naming these bodies is not an endorsement by them of Plait. See the full, dated citation list on our science page.
